Groove Allegiance

“If being funky was a crime (heaven forbid) then Splank's honchos Jonny and Chris (Groove Allegiance) would be behind bars for life” – Dave Jenkins, iDJ.

Fortunately being funky isn’t a crime so the Groove Allegiance continues to unleash its genre defying mash of fidget house, breaks and twisted electro upon the world. The Groove Allegiance consists of Jonny Strinati and Chris Hughes who are also the bosses of one of the funkiest labels on the planet, Splank!. Nominated for Best Breakthrough Label 2006, then sixth Best Label 2007 at Breakspoll they now have over twenty releases in their catalogue and can boast a plethora of artists including Moston & Malente, Strider, Darftphunk, Myagi, Phonat, and of course themselves.

When the Groove Allegiance perform, it’s a truly unique beast. Jonny will work the CD decks, with plenty of exclusive Groove Allegiance and Splank! productions, as well as no end of Groove Allegiance re-edits of tracks, which they’ve tweaked specifically for their floors.
Meanwhile Chris will provide the live elements and improvisation of the show, plugging in the guitar in and letting rip, while also manning the lap top and FX via Ableton Live and a trigger box, firing off loops, acapellas, and twisted FX, all manipulated live.

The guys have been tearing the roof off many a party worldwide including a recent two week tour of Canada, taking in Vancouver, Victoria, Edmonton and Whistler. Recent appearances also include Fabric (London), Glade Festival, Mighty Breaks (San Francisco), Cargo (Beijing), The Foo Club (Hamburg), Bazaar (Porto), Nouveau Casino (Paris), Tangled Breaks (Manchester) and Spectrum (Nottingham).

In the studio the boys stormed onto the scene with ‘Hunkle My Funkle/System 100’ gaining worldwide acclaim from the big name DJs and airplay on Annie Nightingale’s BBC Radio 1 show. Successful follow up ‘Rolands Revenge/A Good Day For Shirkin’ was picked to open JDS’s Beatz ‘n’ Bobz Vol 6.

2007 saw the boys up the game, mixing “The Shirk Off” a CD compilation of past, present and future Splank! tracks tipped to be the definitive sound of funky breaks. Latest single ‘The Drip’ propelled them to new heights topping the breaks charts at Beatport and was a summer smash.

The last couple of months has seen the boys locked in their studio, honing a new sound and tweaking to perfection new single’s ‘Organ Dementia’ and ‘Restless’, due for release in January 2008 and already being tipped as their best work too date.
Alongside this, they’ve just completed remixes for Lounge Records (Germany) and DSV (Canada), and their remix of B-Phreak’s ‘Break Ya Self’ was featured on Sony Playstation’s Wipeout 2 game.
With a return tour of Canada already lined up for March, UK dates occupying Januaryand& February, plenty more brand new productions lined up on Splank! and 2008 is shaping up well for Groove Allegiance.
